Army Base Camp

Palampur | Campus | Architecture Tender

The proposed development of the Palampur Army Base Camp is envisioned as a climate-responsive, sustainable, and functionally efficient institutional campus, carefully integrated with the hilly terrain and ecological context of the region. The design responds to the client brief, climate, and site conditions by adopting a user-centric planning approach that prioritizes operational efficiency, environmental responsibility, and long-term performance. The campus master plan strategically organizes administrative blocks, auditorium, hospital, sports facilities, QM stores, garages, barracks, trainee hostels, and residential housing with clearly defined access from main and internal roads to ensure secure and seamless movement.

A natural water body located centrally within the site is retained and strengthened as a key ecological  and microclimatic element, contributing to temperature moderation, rainwater management, and landscape identity. Sustainable design strategies including optimal building orientation, passive cooling, shaded circulation, cross-ventilation, and extensive landscape development are integrated to reduce heat gain and energy consumption.

The project incorporates comprehensive infrastructure such as water treatment, sewage treatment, rainwater harvesting, solid waste management, CCTV surveillance, electrical sub-stations, and wayfinding systems.

Landscape design emphasizes functional open spaces, pedestrian-friendly environments, and ecological restoration, creating a resilient, self-sufficient, and livable campus aligned with contemporary sustainability benchmarks and operational requirements of an army base facility.
